Pottery Barn knock off! Take it with you....anywhere!

I've had my eye on this idea for a while, many of the DIY bloggers have attempted them, I just find them so appealing in so many ways. Beautiful to look at, sentimental AND educational for the whole family!

So this weekend, I gave it a go and love the finished product!

My ruler has a lovely handmade feel — hand-stained and hand-drawn — and as the product description wisely points out, “you can even take it with you when you move!” (I didn’t really think about it, but that’s a good point. If your Granny ever moved, you'd want her to take the kitchen door frame door with her?) Not super practical.

 

 

 

I think the style of it is so lovely, even if you didn't have any little ones, a day-care, a classroom, kids clothing store??

Some bedside sunshine!

I have been working on a lovely summery yellow bedside this weekend. The top and drawer front were stripped back and waxed to a beautiful shine. The rich yellow paint was lightly distressed and waxed, I think the 2 chunky glass knobs give it a rustic-y glamorous feel!

 

 

 

 

 

 

It wasn't the hugest job, easily completed in a day (which was just as well as the showers were pretty persistent!) but I love the final finish - especially against the brickwork - it just makes me smile :)

I had a tallboy already painted in duck egg chalk paint who needing a little something, so pulled her out of the workshop and had a go. Loving how traditional she still is, but with a quirky twist, great storage; clothes, toys, bathroom?? I thought her quirky shape deserved a little distressing, just a touch!

Some close ups for those who might be thinking, hmmm, that could work in my house ;) Apologies for some finger shots, I was under pressure to finish from a sick child!

 

 

 

 

 

 

Oriental themed chest

I have seen some stunning paper 'wrapped' furniture lately, which inspired me to do this chest of drawers.

 

I love how the subtle green, blues & yellows add a really different dimension to this piece, large glass knobs finishing it off.

Turquoise beauty

I've had this chest of drawers or tallboy in the garage waiting patiently for some love and hardware for a while. With the lack of sunshine yesterday, I thought I'd dig her out and make the day a little brighter!

 

I have played around with her hardware a few times, but have finally settled for blue and white porcelain. Her true colour is as above, the below shots were inside as it was soooo grey outside, but still good to see her dressed up. Great storage with 5 drawers, she's currently for sale.... SOLD

 

Sexy side table!!

I had a French-style side table left over from a sale while back and she sat in the garage patiently whilst I decided what to do with her.

 

Suddenly, it came to me! I really fancied a HIGH GLOSS piece, not that in keeping with my usual rustic style perhaps, but still a look that I LOVE!!

She's very glam isn't she? Perfect as a eye catching side table or single bedside...and those legs!!! She sold very quickly to a friend of mine who LOVES red, so will feel very at home in her new residence :)

 

 

Custom hall table

I was asked to refinish a hall table for a friend. She knew she liked my 'country chic' style, fancied an antique shade of white and left the rest to me. Here is the table on delivery.... 

 

I gave the piece 2 coats of chalk paint and distressed it in all the classic areas to give the impression of age. .

 

I fancied leaving the drawers paint free and sanding back the drawers to reveal a lighter tone of wood, which looks fab against the light paint work.

 

 

First I tried the crystal knobs, but thought that the more casual look of the white pumpkin style suited the table better. 

Either way, she will look great performing her duties back in the hall where she belongs ;)
