Op shop find turned chalkboard

I found this large, dated print in a second hand shop a few months ago which I knew would come in handy somewhere down the track. I have played with the idea of keep in the frame gold (LOVE a bit of gold!) but had a neater idea one night to cover the whole piece in Graphite....

This stuff is a beautiful, rich deep grey, more interesting than plain old blackboard paint. There are some great DIY chalkboards out there, a few of my favourites include...
Dear Lillie
Décor Pad

And here is mine...(complete with cranky angel ;)

Getting more into it..
I like how casual the piece has become with the graphite. Just got to find a wall to hang it now.

Minty cupboard love

I have been wanting to paint something in a mint green shade for AGES! I don't have a lot of this beautiful shade in my home to be honest, but it is definitely one of those colours that catches my eye whether it be furniture, home wares, room colour etc.....

So this antique cupboard came home with me and it had a ghastly cherry stain on it. I decided this would be the piece to get mint-ed! I painted it all over, hardware included (which I don't often do, but love in on this piece) and sanded back the top to reveal a lovely mid-toned timber. I buffed a white wax into this to emphasise the weathered, beachy look and then simply lined the drawer.

She sold quickly, so there are some other mint fans out there for sure - i'll definitely paint in this shade again soon! :)

You know you need a shoe cabinet....

I was keen to start painting again when we returned from a beautiful break visiting family in the UK. Fuelled with masses of inspiration from the rich history & beauty of my home country, it was hard to know where to start!
I had purchased a small, antique shoe cabinet at the local auction house a few weeks before we left and thought that maybe a cute & petite project like this would be a good place to start. And we all love Annie Sloan's Duck egg ;)

This lil' beauty would double up as a really stunning hall stand or bedside...I hope it's neat size finds it's way to the perfect spot in someone's home soon :)

Me on a plate :)

Each and everyone of us has individual tastes. Even if you were to follow someone like myself religiously, there would be the odd piece that I produce that isn't really your cup of tea. My tastes change often, although I feel my heart lies with rescuing traditionally shaped pieces, lots of colour, beautiful lines and quirky hardware. When I branch out to a different style than maybe my norm, I often find that once I have that 'diversion' out of my system, I come back to the traditional blues, whites, chippy paint work and raw wood tops....that's just me!
Uptown Heirloom Co.

I have been painting for 18 months now, and although I am mostly pleased with how my furniture evolves, sometimes you just feel certain pieces scream....
''THIS IS MEEEEEEE!'' (this week, anyhow!)
Recently my head has been turned by much bolder, more contemporary, strong colours and styling, which has inspired my last 2 pieces. I especially love the drawers below, they are simply me on a plate!

I have had MASSES of compliments from the folk who follow me so maybe others are able to see what I can in these once-at-the-end-of-their-life pieces too...stunning colours, a quirky & fun style and most definitely one off beauties. Enjoy :)

Funky playroom setting!

I had the idea to team up two of these lovely knitted pouffs with a small, weathered table for a funky kids settingSuper comfy cotton knit and a hypoallergenic polystyrene filling, lightweight, versatile and excellent for core strength and balance!

I found this antique pine table, 780mm in diameter for sale in the heart of Fremantle. The lady I bought it from said it had been in the family for many generations. It was in need of a sand to take away some old, flaking varnish and some fresh white paint on the legs. I have limewashed and sealed the top to give it the ultimate relaxed beachy feel!
I have left many of original the dents and dings in the top surface, as I feel a they tell a beautiful story about the pieces' history.
What is so lovely about these three items, is that once the children have gone to bed, the adults have a coffee table and two footstools for the evening :)

Have you met Henrietta?

I have used Annie Sloans Henrietta to change a boring cherry-red toned set of shelves into a playful pink piece! Henrietta is a mix of pinks, lilacs and mauves, a pretty and soft colour. Here are some pieces I found to highlight its abilities...

Swoon Worthy Boutique
Stylish Patina
Old House True Love

And look at these pops of a similar shade used in these beautiful rooms....

Lullaby
Trendoza

You may think on first glance that it isn't your cup of tea, but by using a grey wash inside the shelves, the colour acts very differently. Could work amazingly as quirky kitchen or linen storage?  These colours are so versatile with blues, greens, creams etc...go on, think outside the box!
